Connecticut Cervical & Ovarian Cancer Malpractice Attorney
If you or a loved one has been misdiagnosed regarding cervical and/or ovarian cancer, then you need to consult with qualified legal counsel in order to protect your legal rights. The Kocian Law Group can help.
Cervical cancer occurs when the cells of the cervix change, developing unusual and uncontrolled growth patterns. Ovarian cancer occurs when cells of the ovaries exhibit abnormal growth and spread.
The hallmark manner in which cervical cancer is detected is via the Pap smear test. This is a medical test in which cells from the cervix are gathered and spread (i.e. smeared) on a slide. The cells are studied via a microscope in order to look for cancerous or pre-cancerous abnormal cells. In some cases the physician or cytologist who studies the Pap smear negligently fails to pinpoint the cancer or fails to accurately report the conclusions to the patient’s gynecologist. In other situations, the gynecologist fails to take prompt steps in response to an abnormal Pap smear result. If either of these things happens to you, you may be a casualty of medical malpractice. If your cervical cancer was misdiagnosed, missed altogether or not correctly diagnosed or treated, then you need to get in touch with the Kocian Law Group.
While cervical cancer originates in the cervix, ovarian cancer originates in the ovaries. Generally, women have two ovaries, one on each side of the uterus. The ovaries are primarily responsible for the production of eggs, but they also produce hormones. Because ovarian cancer may develop without symptoms, it frequently goes undiagnosed until it has already spread into the abdominal and pelvic regions. Advanced ovarian cancer is often fatal. Just like cervical cancer, ovarian cancer may be missed, misdiagnosed, or treated improperly, causing great harm to the patient.
