Do you work in one of these fields? You could be at risk

There are certain jobs that come with a higher risk of injury. You may view jobs like constriction or law enforcement as occupations that are inherently more dangerous than desk jobs, but there are many occupations that place Connecticut employees at risk. In fact, you may be at risk for environmental exposure or injuries and not know it.

No matter what type of job you have, it is in your interests to know what to do in the event that you suffer an injury in a workplace accident or become ill because of your job. You have the right to certain benefits through a workers' compensation claim, and it is smart to know how this process works. Additionally, you may also find it beneficial to know what kinds of risks you face at work.

Dangerous jobs

When determining the risk factors involved with different types of occupations, the Department of Labor looked at various factors tracked by the department's O*NET occupational database. Some of the things that may factor into how dangerous or risky a job may be include toxic exposure, whether the worker is around hazardous equipment and more.

The risks involved with many types of jobs may surprise you. You may actually find that your job exposes you to more risks that you realized. It is always helpful to understand the hazards you face so you can strive to stay safe on the job. Some of the most dangerous jobs include the following:

  • Dental laboratory technicians
  • Dentists and dental hygienists
  • Immigration or customs inspectors
  • Airline pilots and co-pilots
  • Firefighters
  • Elevator repair workers and technicians
  • Veterinary assistants

No matter what type of work you do, you have the right to workplace that is relatively free from unreasonable risks and unnecessary hazards. This means that even if you have an inherently hazardous job, you should still have access to protective equipment and safety training, and you need to know what to do in case of an injury or occupational illness.

Getting the recovery you deserve

If you suffered an injury in the workplace, you have the right to pursue a full and fair recovery through a workers' compensation claim. You may find it beneficial to work with an experienced attorney as you navigate this claims process, starting with completing your initial application. As you fight to get better and get back to work, it can be helpful to start with an assessment of your case and explanation of the options available to you.
